Like many other young college students in their twenties, most of my time is spent procrastinating from the work I should be doing. Besides scrolling through every social media platform looking at everyone else’s lives, I decide to enter my fantasy life where I’m perfectly organized, have perfectly curled hair and eat healthy meals. In other words, I scroll for hours and pin on Pinterest.
If you search through my boards, of course I have my “healthy eating” board, my “future wedding” and “future home” boards, “crafts” and “dream closet” — I have basically created my dream life. Pinterest me has her shit together. I can pin for hours clothes I’ll never have, or hairstyles that I could never get (without extensions or lots of hair dye) and of course, a future home on the coast of a beach that I will probably never live in. It’s so enjoyable to live this imaginary life and hope that one day I will be the me that is reflected on Pinterest.
Pinterest me works out everyday to get that “Brazilian butt” and knows ALL the makeup tricks to get the perfect contour. She has the perfect closet and perfectly ombréd hair. Pinterest me has a beautifully decorated apartment, is organized and can perfect any DIY thrown at her. Pinterest me is the girl I want to be. Pinterest not only lets me live this life that I dream of and don’t have the money to afford, but it inspires me. Pinterest has some of the best ideas, and scrolling through my feed allows me to learn more about the interests of who I’m following more than their Instagram can.
After pinning things for 45 minutes, I think to myself “tomorrow I’m gonna try all these workouts and I’m gonna save my money and buy all these cute clothes…and then I’m going to try that craft.” You can find anything on Pinterest from your next haircut idea to how to perfect your resume. It is the best outlet to find and share things that you can do for yourself and your boards are full of stuff that you like and want, and through that you create your own Pinterest life. Pinterest you is a reflection of the things that inspire you and that you enjoy. Even though I know I can’t afford half the clothes I pin and my apartment won’t look like it just came off an episode on HGTV, Pinterest can let you play around with the ideas and gather inspiration of how to incorporate those things into my real life.
So keep pinning those workouts, trying those makeup tutorials, and working on those DIYs and one day so Pinterest you will be you IRL.
