Pinterest is a wonderful, crafty website that tricks you into believing you're capable of DIYs, recipes and nail art. I first started my Pinterest account a couple years ago, so I consider myself a Pinterest veteran of some sorts. It instantly hooks you in and before you know it, you’re a 14 year-old girl planning out her future wedding. I already know what kind of hard wood flooring I want for my future home all because of Pinterest.
The website can be a huge help and has tips that can organize your thoughts. By just searching "college" there are recommendations on what to pack, what courses to take and how to have a productive semester. This is nice, but I tend to get distracted easily on Pinterest. One second I’m pinning an article called, “Wake Up & Be Productive!” And, the next second, I’m looking at “Simple Nail Art You Can Do With a Toothpick.” And just so you know, it is by no means “simple.”
Which brings me to my next topic. Pinterest makes you think you have the ability to do DIYs and nail art. The pictures will show a few steps to ombre nails and it looks great! Except when you attempt it. The steps don’t translate to your actual nails and you end up having a mess. This does lead to a lot of Pinterest fails, which I find highly entertaining, considering I relate so well. I actually just learned that there is a website called pinterestfail.com. Its headline, “Where good intentions come to die,” is wildly accurate.
Although Pinterest sometimes gets me in over my head and runs up the bill at my local craft store, I still love it.
This summer I worked a lot and my hours were normally different than my friends’ work schedules. This meant when I wasn’t at work, there wasn’t much to do. This summer accelerated my Pinterest addiction because I genuinely looked forward to trying out all my pins after work.
If my Pinterest boards would all of a sudden disappear tomorrow, I don’t know what I would do. How would I know all my interests if they are not displayed on a board on a website? How will I be motivated if I don’t have a bunch of quotes written over photos of girls with abs? I wouldn’t know what was on my wish list when holiday season comes around. I wouldn’t know how to tie the perfect ribbon on a gift. Don’t even get me started about being clueless about all the fun, quirky recipes.
Pinterest displays all my dreams and motivations. As a visual learner, I need this website in my life. It’s not much of a positive influence when I’m in class pinning how to make a woven basket, but when I need organization tips at the beginning of the semester it is my savior!
So thank you, Pinterest. You may make me feel incompetent at times, but you also let me organize my thoughts. As a scattered brain mess, I need you in my life.
