6 Phrases You Should Be Using Every Day

Keep these six phrases and the reasoning behind them in your thoughts as you go throughout your day.:

1. Thank You.

Ever since we were little kids, we have always been told to say thank you. Although the phrase gets thrown around without care every day, it tends to go a long way. Saying 'thank you' to someone lets them know that they're actions are not taken for granted.

2. How are you?

You never know what is going on in someones personal life. The simple question of 'How are you?', can totally have the potential to turn someones day around. No matter the person, or circumstances, everyone likes to know that they are cared about. Next time you see someone sitting alone, or one of your friends seems a little down, ask them how they are. It could totally change their mood, and let them know that they are not alone.

3. I appreciate you.

This saying goes hand-in-hand with thank you, except I think it is more sincere. By letting someone now you appreciate them, you are telling them that their friendship, work, or thoughts are needed. Again, you may never know how someone is truly feeling, but everyone loves to feel like they are needed. By telling someone you appreciate them, you are letting them know that you care about what they are doing or saying.

4. I can do it.

Somedays we wake up feeling like the world is against us, & like the tasks in front of us are nearly impossible. However, as you know, they are not impossible & we can do close to anything we truly put our minds to. Even on the hard days, we should strive to wake up feeling confident in ourselves & the abilities that we have to be able to achieve great things.

5. Yes.

Sometimes we get so carried away in our day to day schedules & checking things off of our to-do lists, that we forget that life shouldn't be that way. Allow yourself to let go of your stressful schedule every now & then so you can say 'Yes' to living spontaneously. It is okay to not always be so focused on the tasks that you have to get done next. If we lived that way than our lives would be black & white without any color.

6. No.

It is also very okay to say 'No." Society tells us that we constantly have to be busy, & this causes us to tend to overcommit ourselves. We are constantly spreading our energy too thin, & we're asleep before our head even hits the pillow. Being involved in multiple organizations, activities, majors, or groups is perfectly fine, as long as you allow yourself to schedule in some down time. Self care should come before whatever and however many things you're involved in.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
