To My Sisters On Initiation Day,
When I nervously opened my envelope and received my bid from Phi Sigma Sigma, I had no idea how much those three letters would mean to me in such a short amount of time.
The night before recruitment I laid in my bed and anxiously watched YouTube videos about finding your home in Greek life. Everyone said trust the system and you will end up “where you’re meant to be”, but I was still skeptical.
After going to meet the Greeks and never leaving the Phi Sigma Sigma booth I immediately called my mom and confessed my love for Phi Sig. I talked to our Recruitment Chair for an hour and never ran out of something to say. I went home that night and stalked almost every single one of you and accidentally liked a few of your Instagram photos, which resulted in a panic attack. Not only did I find that the girls of Phi Sigma Sigma were beautiful on the outside, but their passions and endeavors in life set them apart from everyone else.
When did I know Phi Sigma Sigma was home? When I walked into the tent each day and girls remembered my name. When I met Erika, who is now my big, and bonded over sticky boobs and our mutual addiction to Starbucks. When talking to the girls around me in line, who are now my sisters and discovering how diverse yet similar we all are. When I met Jess and Dani on preference night and I wasn’t wearing shoes and looked like I just did the walk of shame, yet they still asked if I wanted to go out with them.
After jumping off that stage with girls I just met and being spun around in circles by screaming members who I can now proudly call my sisters, I knew in that very moment I was home. I finally found girls that accepted me for who I was and I no longer had to try to be anything other than my true authentic self. I found a group of women who continually encourage each other to be the best version of themselves. Six weeks ago I gained the girls who are always down to go to Wendy’s at midnight, who know exactly what to say when I am laying on the floor missing home, who will willingly crawl on the floor at the bar to help me find my phone, girls who will sing Arianna Grande at the top of their lungs, girls who love me even when I have a double chin in all of my snap chats and spill a gallon of paint in the back of their car.
As the new member process comes to an end and we become active members of the best chapter on campus, although I may be a little bias, I want to thank you all for holding our chapter to such high standards and staying true to our values. This is something I promise to continue, not only for the remainder of my time on campus, but far beyond. I strongly believe that the future of Phi Sigma Sigma is in the hands and the hearts of the women who wear our letters. I strive to leave a lasting impact on our chapter and community. I hope to one-day sit among the women on the stage who have guided our chapter thus far and have New Members look up to me like I look up to all you.
Through Phi Sigma Sigma I found myself.
Once Always,
Jordyn
