Being a willing servant of Christ may seem like a burden to some, but God has given us each a gift. Whether your gift is teaching, singing, cleaning or shaking hands, God has called you to service.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” -1 Peter 4:10
I know I’m not the only Christian who struggles with picking up their Bible every single day. While this is something I have to work on daily, I couldn’t imagine that being my relationship with Christ. I couldn’t imagine sitting down and the only thing between me and a great God is a book that I fail to read.
We fail to read our Bibles, but that’s not all we’re called to do.
I love that even though I fail to spend alone time with God, I spend time with him at his feet in service. Not just in a service, but as a servant. Although I mess up, he continues to allow me to answer my calling that goes above and beyond reading my Bible in my closet.
I know that may sound like a silly reason to serve the church, but giving back to God is a huge part of the relationship I think we forget. I think we forget He has a purpose for us. Our purpose is so much more than to pick up our Bible and know it. We are called as a chosen people to do something with that. And for me, I fail at that. I remember to read my Bible at midnight so I doze off instead.
No one should have to twist your arm to get you to read your Bible, but if you need a push- get involved. Committing yourself to a small group or to loving on kids once a month is a good way to keep yourself accountable. Not only can you keep yourself accountable, you build new Godly relationship to help. The people you meet when you step out of a pew will change the way you view church.
“I, therefore, a prisoner of the Lord, urge you to a live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” –Ephesians 4:1
If you find yourself being called to encourage others, you’re going to need encouragement first and that comes from the Word. I’ve heard people say they don’t want to serve in a church because they don’t want to miss a sermon, but I don’t know what they do with that sermon.
God is constantly calling people in the Bible to go. I refuse to sit in a church and do nothing. I refuse for my relationship with Christ to only be my failed alone time. I’m called to something greater, to be a servant.
