Are you a dog person or a cat person?
I can very proudly say I am a "cat person." I may be a little biased because I own a cat. Her name is Lily, she's 6 years old, and she's the love of my life. As much as I love cats I also share a great love of dogs. However... cats are better. Here are some perspectives from a cat loving college student:
Much like the powerful, almighty woman I am, cats are independent. As an owner, they're pretty low-maintenance. All you really need to do is feed them, brush them, change the litter box, and take them to the vet twice a year.
Cats are alphas. They rule the house and make sure you know it. Everywhere is their territory. If one of your guests disrupts them, they will make sure that guest knows never to bother them again. They. Rule. The. Household.
Cats are literally made out of elastic. They can jump off of any height in the house and still land on two feet. They can fit in any container and corner they please. I've never seen a cat trip before. Have you??
They have a loving/hating personality similar to mine. Cats love on their own terms. They are not ones that you can just come up and cuddle (depending on the cat). I've realized that this mirrors certain personalities, in a way. You always come across those people who prefer not be touched or even talked to unless they approach you first.
Cat personas are the equivalent to "Resting Bitch Face" Going along with the last point: People with a resting bitch face remind me of cats. The unapproachable, unimpressed, and feisty exterior match the exact vibe of a cat. And I love it.
Cat people are seen as crazy, but that's okay. We know we're not crazy. We just have more in common with cats than we do with people sometimes. And we tend to get along with cats more because a constant slobbery love may not be what we prefer. This is by no means a bash on dogs or dog lovers. I love dogs too; sometimes their overwhelming expression of love is needed. But cats are the perfect amount of love and fur for me. While I own a cat, sometimes I feel like she takes care of me sometimes because she keeps me sane, especially during finals.
