20 Reasons Cats are Superior
Anna Merchant

If you know me, you know I love cats but above all, I love my own cat. In fact, I love my cat so much, she’s ruined me for all other cats. Sure, we have other cats in my family and my friends have cats and I love them too, but Maggie Mae is the light of all my happiness. Every cat person out there has that one cat that just encapsulates all kitty love a person could possibly have. Cats have been around for a very long time, and yet they are a beautifully unique combination of old-age wisdom and new-age sass. Now, I know there are a lot of dog people out there–I have two dogs myself and I love them to death, but cats are just the perfect mix of majestic and silly that no other animal can compete with.

Here’s my tentative list of reasons why cats are clearly the superior being in our lives:

1. They are the purrfect blend of sass and cuddles.

2. Cats bring you many gifts (ranging from mice to hair ties and everything in between.)

3. They are soft and fluffy (unless they are of the hairless variety, who are beautiful, as well.)

4. A cat's purring has been theorized to enhance a person's mood.

5. They act like they are better than you, but they know they are only slightly better than us humans.

6. They are, in most cases, fairly independent (unless your cat is like my cat, Jezzabelle.)

7. They know when you need some subtle loving after a bad day (my snowy feline, Noel is a pro at this.)

8. Cats can act so indifferent to the people around them, including the people you don't like.

9. Cats love laying in the sun–automatic tanning buddy!

10. Cats are also super romantic and love laying by the fireplace. Chocolate-covered mice, anyone?

11. The world is their playground, which can be pretty entertaining to watch.

12. Cats can sleep almost anywhere, the world is their bed (jealous?)

13. Unlike dogs and humans, cats don't have bad breath (I'm sure there are exceptions to this, though.)

14. I don't know about your cat, but my cat can see into my soul. I'm almost positive she has all the secrets of the universe.

15. Mouse problem in your house? Cats to the rescue!

16. Gone for the weekend and missing your cat? CAT HAIR ON ALL YOUR CLOTHES! It's almost like they're there with you.

17. The topic of cats make for fantastic small talk. Trust me, I know.

18. They poop in a litter box–you don't have to take them out, or scoop up poop at the park.

19. They make for good company. My cat LOVES watching me drink my morning coffee.

20. They know how to make you feel like the only person in their world.

Well, that’s my list…for now. There are many more reasons to love cats (hello funny cat video!) but every person has a unique relationship with their cat and every cat is different. Many of the items on this list were conjured up while thinking about my three beautiful kitties, but I know if I were to ask other people the list could very well go on forever. Go home and give your cat some loving, and if you don’t have a cat, I’m sure the nearest Humane Society has a few!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
