My name is Destin, I am 17 years old and I just graduated High School. Later that year I started going to honor bands and made lots of new friends. In eighth grade I was section leader of the low brass section. I was also and alternate for the Arab High School Marching Band. I went to more honor bands and i received first chair. I had the privilege to play at the Philadelphia's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I played softball for a Rec team and we placed third in the state at Dizzy Dean World Series in South Haven,MS. I played softball for Arab Junior High school and was captain. In high school I attended Arab High School. In ninth grade I was first chair in Symphonic Band. I participated in JSU honor band and received first chair red band. I also attended UNA honor band and received first chair. In tenth grade I was first chair Symphonic Band and second chair Jazz Band. The Arab Band played at the Outback Bowl in Tampa, FL.I participated in JSU honor band and received first chair Wind Ensemble. I also participated in the University of Alabama's honor band and received first chair. My grandpa passed away later in the year. My uncle passed away right after. In eleventh grade I was named section leader over the Tenor Sax section at Arab HIgh School. I was first chair Symphonic, first chair Jazz Band, and first chair Concert Band. I received first chair Wind Ensemble at JSU honor band. I also received first chair at the University of Alabama's honor band. I received third chair in the district. During all of this my step-grandma who was close to me passed away. My friends were in a car accident and passed away. Their names were Calli, Cody, Matt, and Koleman. In twelfth grade my great aunt passed away and that was really hard on me. I moved to Albertville High School. I received first chair Wind Ensemble, all-state prep class, and second chair Jazz Band. I found out the third day of school that a guy who was like family to me passed away. That is really hard on me. My future plans have been set since seventh grade. I want to go to Jacksonville State University and get my bachelors in Music Ed to start off with. Then I will go to the University of Alabama for my graduate studies. After I find a job I will try to go for my doctor one in music ed then get a bachelor's degree in Music Therapy because I would love to help special needs kids or anyone in need. Also, next summer I am planning on joining the Air Force.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
