Perks Of Being An Only Child

We have it better than you think

As an only child, I know we have a horrible rep. People think that we're selfish, self-centered, and spoiled. Even when we prove we aren't, people think the opposite; we're aloof, anti-social and stuck up. Come on guys-- we're not that bad! Because of all the negativity, I thought it would be good to acknowledge the perks of being an only child for once.

1. You are really close with you're parents.

You had nobody else to talk to as a kid, so you're parents became your first best friends. The rest is history.

2. Sometimes too close.

Mom, just because I didn't answer 0.003 seconds after you texted me, doesn't mean I drowned in the Hudson.

3. Nobody steals your food.

No need to hide your last five Oreos, nobody is stealing that... Unless your house is haunted, but I can't help you there.

4. You're always the best looking sibling.

There's no competition.

5. You've never had to have the awkward "OMG YOUR BROTHER IS SOOOO CUTE" conversation.

Sorry, no, I can't set you up with my siblings.

6. You've never had to be so and so's sibling.

Or deal with the bad rep that sometimes comes with that.

7. You've never had to share a room with anybody.

Until college... I apologize to my roommate. I'm new at this.

7. You've always had ample "me time".

Sometimes, I forget there are other people on this planet.

8. You've always had sick nasty birthday parties as a kid.

Proud winner of party of the year in 4th grade.

9. OD Christmas presents.

Do I even need to explain why this rocks?

See, let the ~haters~ think what they want; being an only child is the best. Everybody else is just jealous.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
