Growing Up An Only Child As Told By "The Office"

It is both a blessing and a curse.

Growing up as an only child definitely has its perks, but there is way more to it than meets the eye. While growing up, friends with siblings always thought it was cool to worry about siblings stealing your clothes or sharing a bedroom. They thought that being an only child meant that you are spoiled and don't know how to share. What they failed to realize is that the main difference between being and only child and having siblings is that as an only child, the spotlight is shining directly on you and it gets difficult at times. Here are some quotes from "The Office" that explain why:

1. You can't get away with anything.

Your parents don't have to divide their attention, so they can watch your every move with ease. They know more about you than you think they know, and it is actually kind of scary. You also don't have a sibling to blame for anything so there is really never a way out.

2. You get lonely and find yourself doing weird things to stay entertained.

No matter how close you are with your parents, there comes a point when you get tired of hanging out with them. You were never able to run across the hall and sit in your sibling's room to talk about your day or have a dance party so you are used to being alone a lot. Although alone time can be a wonderful thing, having too much inevitably leads to finding very strange ways to occupy your time...like parkour, for example.

3. Holidays can get pretty boring.

While your friends are getting the rare chance to spend time with all of their siblings, you are at home sitting on the couch in your pajamas with your parents. Everyone else is getting wild at family parties, sharing stories and catching up with family, meanwhile you are binge watching Netflix because you are with the same people you spend every single day with.

4. You are impatient.

Only children are accustomed to being the center of attention so all of their needs are quickly taken care of without much thought. In the real world, when this treatment vanishes, raging impatience takes over.

5. You like being alone more than most people.

You are used to spending so much time alone, you easily get annoyed when you are around people for too long. You are independent and have learned to thrive when you are alone, but you are also OK with spending an entire weekend at home without any human interaction. It is both a blessing and a curse.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
