If you talk to a tall person, they wish they were shorter. If you talk to a short person, they wish they were taller. No matter what, we want what we can't have. Both extremes on the height spectrum have their ups and downs, but being 5'1" and having a roommate that's almost 6 feet tall has let me experience these first hand. Sure, there are times when I'm grateful to remain closer to the ground, but there seem to be many more incidences where I'm fighting the feeling of envy towards her towering self. Although there are plenty of things taller people can do that shorter people can't, I've learned to use my roommate's height to my advantage, too.
1. They can reach things that you can't.
2. And when putting up decorations for a party, you can just sit back and watch.
3. When you can't see over a crowded room and they spot your friends ...
4. Or, more importantly, they spot them at the bar.
5.
And if you want to see for yourself, they serve as your very own personal piggy back ride.6.
Having to sprint to keep up with them doubles as an extra work out for the day.7. You're blessed with the gift of being able to borrow their clothes, even if they can't borrow yours.
8.
Never having to face confrontation, because people are unsure whether they're your BFF or your body guard.9.
They make people question using the all-too-common phrase “You look like you're twelve."10.
Being able to avoid anyone, at any time, because your tall friend acts as a mobile hiding spot, and the only way anyone could see you is if this happened:
11.
But, most importantly, they give you someone to look up to ... literally.
No matter what the situation, once you learn to compensate for your shortcomings through your tall pals, you get the best of both worlds.
