We experience numerous highs and lows in life. The highs seem to pass by quickly, the lows seem to drag on forever. It becomes so easy to focus on the negatives of life because of how conscious we are of our fallen world's imperfection.
If we did not sin, why would Jesus have suffered on the cross? Now, do not get confused and believe that it is a free pass to sin. It is not, but it allows us to be aware how unworthy we are of such a righteous God.
Christ does not enjoy seeing his sons and daughters struggle, but if the struggle brings us closer to the throne and to God's heart of mercy, then it must be. If perfectionism is your secret struggle, then I am left to assume that is not the only skeleton in your closet. Striving for a flawless life can leave you feeling empty, alone, abandoned, worthless, and it can even lead to more serious issues pertaining to your mental health. When you believe the lies that you are not good enough, the lie eventually becomes your truth. And the truth you believe, you ultimately act upon. Even though Christ tells us in his love story that we are masterpieces, forgiven, chosen, and wonderfully made we can still tune out all those lovely things Christ describes us as, and listen to the single voice that whispers, "failure, not good enough, worthless."
I want to encourage the perfectionists out there and tell you that you're not alone. You are good enough. Christ died for you, imperfections and all. Stop chasing a bottomless idea and embrace the freedom Jesus called you to live in.
