The Internet has reached such a profound level of notoriety and accessibility in today's society that we almost forget the massive influence it has on our lives every day. However, even though the Internet has the ability to do incredibly powerful things in the world, we aren't using it to its full potential. In today's technological world, the "Age of the Internet" if you will, we post vapid pictures of our food, write statuses and tweets that, frankly, nobody cares about, and we argue with invisible faces hiding behind the pixels of a screen. A "Perfect Internet," while wildly improbable, is a goal we must hold in high regard as a society. The Internet is a tool like none other. It's universal in essence; it allows us to connect with each other on a higher level than ever before. While some may say that this is the "Age of the Internet", I would disagree. This alludes to some sort of climax or pinnacle, like this is a golden period. The Internet is in relative infancy and, like any newborn, it's our responsibility to instill it with good values, morals, and ethical fortitude so that it can thrive and prosper in a chaotic world.

The most recent estimates list the total size of the Internet at approximately 45 billion webpages. With an unfathomable number like that, it almost seems like the Internet would be an unstoppable force for good. A hive mind for the progressive ideas that will lead our society into the future. However, the just causes and intelligent ideas are swept away by this overbearing, ever-evolving landscape that is the Internet. Instead of promoting an ideology that would bring the world together through understanding and fellowship, we're bombarded with advertisements and media sources that profit off of the tragedies that occur every day while also attempting to perpetuate their political stances. This is not what the Internet was inherently created for.

Now, it may seem like I'm being a bit brash, even unfair, but there are also quite a few positive aspects of today's Internet that make things a little less bleak. For instance, the social media website "Tumblr" is the perfect example of an open forum that allows creativity to flow from the minds of anyone. Their mission statement, "to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve", reiterates the point that using the Internet to create fresh, innovative ideas and allow others to see it, critique it, follow it, or even emulate it is where this tool prospers.

Perfection is defined as, "the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects". If we can create an Internet that promotes the well-being and advancement of our society and use this tool to communicate revolutionary ideas, philosophy, art, and higher culture, we can attain a state of perfection. The Internet, conceptually, does not work until we make it work as a cohesive bond between humans that strives for the betterment of society as a whole.
