2016 is about halfway over and it’s been quite a year. While it might be difficult to boast that 'merican pride right now, I’ll take any excuse for a BBQ. Besides scaring all the neighborhood dogs with your illegal fireworks, the 4th of July is a day of swimming, socializing and cooking burgers on the grill. A BBQ is only as good as the food served (and maybe the people there, too), and you don't have to miss out on delicious food just because you’re vegan. Here are 15 recipes to ensure your 4th of July (or any summer) BBQ will be the talk of the town.

Appetizers
1. Guacamole and chips (or vegetables).
A delicious staple of any BBQ. Get some avocados and make your own; it’ll definitely be worth it. For other dips, serve hummus (homemade or store bought), salsa, or some vegan ranch.
2. Wings
Kick it up a notch with some wings. There are A LOT of options. You can buy pre-made wings such as Gardein's or Lightlife's, or you can make your own! Cauliflower wings are also pretty popular on the internet, so if you're feeling risky, give it a go.
3. Stuffed mushrooms
A favorite appetizer for any kind of party.
4. Ice pops
Remember those red, white, and blue rocket pops? Yeah, those were bomb. This version of the beloved ice pop is less artificial, made with fruit and coconut milk. There's no added sugar or syrup, and I bet they're more delicious than store bought. These are great for kids, and maybe the adults, too.
5. Strawberry salad
During the 4th of July, strawberries and blueberries are your friend. Make every dish patriotic with these fruity strawberry salads.

Entrees and Sides
6. Burgers
If you don’t have time to make your own veggie burgers, and I don’t blame you, you need to find your go-to burger. Whether it's Gardein, Field Roast, Boca, Hilary's, or Beyond Meat's Beast Burger to name a few, find your brand. And don't forget the cheese. (Daiya slices, Follow Your Heart, Chao)
7. Veggie dogs
Lightlife's Smart Dogs are probably one of your cheapest options. When Canisius's Veg Club held a cook-out, everyone (vegans and meat-eaters alike) said they tasted like “regular hot dogs.” Just remember: don’t forget all the fixings!8. Kebabs
Tofu, seitan, vegetables, or even fruit. Stick 'em on sticks and stick 'em on the grill!
9. Portabello mushrooms
To mix it up a bit, put some portabello mushrooms on the grill. The trick is in the marinade to really bring out the flavors!
10. Vegan potato salad
Growing up, I remember glopping huge hunks of store-bought potato salad on my plate. The white goop with a few chunks of potatoes in it; you remember it. Try a homemade version to highlight the potatoes and add some real flavors to the dish. It’ll be much lighter too. Or throw some sliced potatoes in a bowl of Hampton Creek mayo. Your choice.

Dessert
11. Cupcakes
Cupcakes are easy to make, especially if you use the 1 box cake mix + 1 can soda trick. The real fun comes with the decorations. Add some berries, some fireworks, and get creative!
12. Apple pie
Apple pie is the American dessert, so don’t disappoint! Warm apple pie is perfect for when it’s getting chilly at night and the fireworks are about to start.
13. Rice Crispy treats
Since Trader Joe's just released a brand of vegan marshmallows (YAY!), there’s no reason not to make rice crispy treats. They’re not your average BBQ dessert, but they’re bound to be a hit.
14. Patriotic Cheesecake
Summer + Cheesecake + Berries = YES!
