Dear You,
Don't think I don't see you throwing some shade at the Odyssey or one of its writer by posting another article on why you hate open letters and how nobody cares or wants to read them because it's all about you.
One of the reasons I decided to write for this site was because of the creative freedom the writers are given. That being said, you don't get to decide what somebody wants to publish. If someone is brave enough to open up about their heartbreak, traumatic experience or death of a loved one, how dare you try and put them down. Keep your thoughts to yourself, please and thank you.
On the other hand, if a writer wants to acknowledge or thank their friends or family members, let them pay their tribute to them. Why does this bother you? Guess what? If you don't like it, then scroll down! Yes, it really is that simple.
The Internet itself is filled with an insane amount of content on anything and everything you could ever imagine and more. You're not sitting there complaining about that, are you? No. I didn't think so.
So, to hate on a writer who is opening up, whether for their own personal healing or grieving process or to try and help others in similar situations, is flat out uncalled for and completely unnecessary.
Please, I beg you, do all of us (and your Facebook friends) a favor and stop slamming open letters. It clogs up our newsfeed — and frankly, I'd rather see more open letters from college students across the country than your status hating on them.
Sincerely,
Me
