“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So do not be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 NLT
Peace. The definition of peace according to Webster dictionary is “freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions.” It is easy to define peace. The question that so many want the answer to though is “Where does true peace come from?”
In the world we live in today, we have constant tribulation. Constant struggle. We live in a world of heartache that we face every single day. Just recently, a student at Campbell University fell to his death. A young life cut short by tragedy. How is it possible to have peace in a troubled world? I have to confess that I do not have the answer to this question. But, the Lord does. In His word, Jesus says in John 14:27 that He will give us the peace we all need. This is the Holy Spirit. This is Christ living in us. God is our peace when we are struggling. He is a loving God who is stable. We can find stability in Him in the midst of a shifting world. In scripture, we can see that God is in control despite the circumstances we are in.
Now, God does not cause evil to happen. He is a sovereign God who does not will evil to happen to a man or woman. Does He allow us to experience times of heartache? Yes He does. But, does He leave us when we are struggling? No He does not. The Bible teaches us that God walks with us in the face of adversity. He NEVER promised us that this life would be easy. Jesus NEVER said that if we would believe in Him, we would have a “get out of jail” pass for the hard times in our lives. However, He DID say He would give us a peace that would pass all understanding. In Him, we can have peace despite the trial we are in. Tribulation will come in this life. This is a fact that Jesus says in John 16:33. But peace in the times of trouble can be found in Him. Our loving and living God.
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
