America's Priorities Are Messed Up

America's Priorities Are Messed Up

America truly has its priorities f*cked up. I am saying this bluntly and someone has to.

Why we we storming an Area 51 when we have children dying in cages? Why are we separating families? Why are the conditions at the detainment centers so indecent that we are just looking away?

Also, why are we arguing about a Black actress, who is in fact beautiful and can sure sing, playing the Little Mermaid when we are in the fight for women' rights against abortion rights?

Did we forget about the racist tweets that Trump put out to the public? Or are we too concerned with the Kardashians and how the animation of the New Lion King may be too distressing for kids.

I guess we forget about the shooting in Florida? Cause our heads are so far up Instagram? Probably.

Did we forget that Climate Change is an actual threat? Or are we just hoping paper straws and planet Mars will be the answer. Yeah, I don't think so.

When are we going to stop closing our eyes and face the realities of our problems? Arguing about some minor things like who should play Ariel, what kind of bikini should I wear for Instagram, if there should be a new season of Game of Thrones, etc. When are we gonna pull our heads out of our assess and face the problems that are happening?

I am studying social work and I have learned so much about advocating for those in need. As only one human, there is only so much I can do., but I am willing to do all that I can while taking care of myself.

I decided to face my fear of voting and voted for the first time in 2018. I continue to raise money for the Muscle Dystrophy Association. I try to be as eco-friendly as possible by reducing, reusing, and recycling. I am keeping up with the new of the problems of the world, I am writing articles to spread awareness about the problems of the world. I donate to ocean cleanups online. I adopted a cat.

I am by far the perfect human, but what I do know is we need to face the reality of our situations as a whole and fight against injustice for a better world to come. We need to stop worrying about trivial things and man up to solve the world's largest crises.

We owe it to others and ourselves

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
