8 Struggles Of Being The Pale Friend

At least we always have a black clothing item on hand when you need it.

Every friend group has the pale friend... The one whose skin is like porcelain and they're always blabbing about the sun being too hot for them to be in it. Yup, you know, the one who is always layering up if we're outside or re-applying extreme amounts of sunscreen. Well, I'm that friend, and here are eight struggles that my fellow pasty, pale girls and I go through being the pale one in the friend group...

1. We always ask if we'll be outside in the sun or can we find a shady spot when we go out during the day

It actually hurts being in the sun for too long and we can't let our friends forget it. We can't even go five or 10 minutes without starting to feel burnt, so sometimes we just avoid it all together.

2. Always gotta have our sunscreen with us

Giphy

Might as well just bathe in it because we have to apply it so often.

3. And then we don't lather up as often as we usually would and need to deal with sunburn for days

Giphy

Because when you don't bathe in lotion and you're in the sun for a minute too long, you literally can't breathe without everything hurting.

4. All your friends want to get spray tans but you can't because you're so pale they look unnatural

Giphy

It's just not fair.

5. Our closets always look grim because any remotely pale color blends too much with our skin

Giphy

We can't wear any beige, nude, light pink, light yellow, white or any colors remotely too pale because it basically just blends with your paleness...

6. We constantly hear Casper jokes

Giphy

At least we're the friendly ghost, no?

7. Or vampire jokes...

Giphy

Yes, we DO see daylight.

8. We are known as the palest member of your friend group

Giphy

It's a thing and we just accept it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
