The Struggle to Overcome, the Struggle to Not Succumb.

We are humans, we create our pain

We take our first breaths, we take our first steps, these are achievements. We learn our first words, we make our first friends, these are accomplishments. As children, we go about life simply. We are blank slates not knowing whats right or wrong. We find our own styles, we find our own friends, we do what we like and we’re happy. Until we slowly develop, we’re adults. Our blank slates are filled with experiences and influences. life doesn't become so simple anymore. With growth and experience comes knowledge. With knowledge comes thoughts and ideas.Simplicity gets hard when you find out there is no one way to do anything, there is not a correct way, instead, they’re multiple ways, but which way is the right way?

It's hard to be optimistic in a world where there is so much tragedy, constantly psyching yourself out for reasons that may or may not exist, constantly examining meaning or reasoning for this life. Neglecting the reasons to be thankful and appreciative for. Why does this happen? Why let the bad outweigh the good, why let all your previous accomplishments be invalidated by a couple of negative interactions. It's difficult because some days are worse than others, but what we are reluctant to remember is that some days are also better than others.

If we surround ourselves with a negative ambiance, negative vibes, and negative thoughts it's obviously challenging to be optimistic and cheerful about the day to come. Similarly, positive surroundings and positive mindsets lead to better outlooks in even the simplest of things, such as menial day to day tasks. Smiling through the pain is much more helpful to our well being than drowning in our pain.

With all the chaos and adversity that occurs in one's life it's essential to get back up, to keep trying, because a bad morning doesn't have to turn into a bad afternoon, and a good morning can continue to stay a good afternoon.

At the end of the day one has to remember that every problem will eventually find its solution. Obstacles are a natural part of life, they are inevitable. The important thing to remember is that obstacles don't define you, rather how you choose to handle those obstacles do. Life is tough, and it does get progressively complex, but it's up to ourselves to make it what we will, because we are the creators of our own journey, only we have the power to use our knowledge to better us, not destroy us.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
