Outstanding Moments From The Oscars

Outstanding Moments From The Oscars

The Oscars this year were very much on point. Neil Patrick Harris was a great host, and the awards went to amazing actors, actresses, directors, producers, and other professionals in the film world. Here are some great momentsĀ I observed in this year's Oscars.

Neil Patrick Harris' puns.

NPH did a great job hosting this year. One of the best things he did, however, was provide us with quality puns. Like this one, about Reece Witherspoon:

"This Oscar presenter is so lovely you could eat her up with her spoon."

Oh Neil.

Lady GaGa'sĀ performanceĀ rocked.

While many people find Lady GaGa to be a fantastic singer, I am normally not one of those people. Tonight, however, she owned the stage. Her dress, the set, and her voice gave an outstanding tribute to Julie Andrews and The Sound of Music.

Speaking of the set, it was beautiful.

The bridge from Selma, the trees from Lady GaGa's number, the steam punk gears behind the presenters, and Neil's opening number all were amazing sets. So shoutout to the set designers; y'all deserve an award yourselves.

The jaw-dropping performance of Glory.

Tonight, Glory swept all the categories it was nominated for, and it won rightfully so. If there were any doubters left before the performance, there were certainly none after.

But it also won have been really funny if Everything Is Awesome won.

And last but not least, the movies themselves.

Each award kept us on the edges of our seats; there was no clear winner in each category. Birdman, Boyhood, and The Imitation Game are all amazing movies, and picking the winners must have been a very challenging task. Do I think Emma Stone should have won? Yes. And was I pulling for Reese Witherspoon? You know it. But each award was so competitive, that we all knew that at least one or two people nominated was going to leave empty handed when they did an outstanding job.

All in all, the Oscars did a great job.

The actual show was spectacular, and it was a competitive year. Birdman got all the awards it deserved, we shown a light on ALS, Alzheimer's, suicide, and other issues that need attention, and I now have new movies to watch. (Talking about you, Still Alice.) I ended the show feeling satisfied, and full of great dresses to try and find cheap imitations of.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
