Our Next President Has No Power

We the people are the lifeline of this country. It is time to act like it.

About half of the country is going to vote for Hillary Clinton. About half of the country is going to vote for Donald Trump. The decider lies between which is the slightly bigger half.

Before you check out and start packing your bags for Canada, let's review some basic facts and history.

Our country was built with bloody, intelligent hands that had a dream of society. They dreamed of a place bigger and better than anyone ever thought possible. There were problems and times of grief, but they did it. They built America and it breaks my heart to see so many ungrateful citizens threaten to abandon it because they get their feelings hurt.

Our government has so many different branches and offices and multiple people in each section for a reason. Is there a chance that one day someone could create a plan so articulate that they could actually destroy the white house while in office? Sure, anything is possible and we Americans of all people should know that. However, that is why we have so many offices. We have checks and balances and public voting and the ability for the people to take over. We have these things because our country was built by the working people, for the working people.

If Trump or Clinton become president, it will not be the end of the world and that is definitely hard for me to say considering my strong opinion in this election.

We are responsible for how our country ends up in the next four to eight years. We are the ones that make up the majority. We are the ones that hold the power. The president is a figure head when you look at the potential the working voters have to run this country.

Get up early and make some money if you need money. Go to school and actually pay attention if you need more scholarships to go to college. Pay attention and run for office if you don't like the candidates. Pick up a pen and write an academic proposal if you want a change. Be kind and spread good deeds if you don't like the hostility in the world.

Hillary can't make you get a job when you need money if you don't want one. Trump can't teach you children math and business strategies. Hillary won't be the one to end the war against law enforcement. Trump won't be the one to erase the divides in this country. Neither of them can single handedly do anything without us, even if they have our vote. That part is on us.

If you want change in this country, then stop complaining and do something. Go get a second job and make the money you need for a better lifestyle. Go to school and actually care about your grades. Go to the polls and have a say in elections. Be kind. Be brave. Be diligent. Most importantly, be American. Remember that our country was nothing at one point in time. We need to stop being petty and work together to get back on track and lead the world to greatness. Presidents don't make this country. We do.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
