Just twenty-four hours after Donald Trump was elected as the new President of the United States, I remember receiving a powerful photo- one that was actively used at a protest in New York City.
This photo illustrated Trump as a Hitler-like leader. This photo sparked so much emotion. This photo displayed a painted presentation of our new President, one with a red swastika on his forehead and two words besides him that read “Pro-Rape.”
I think all Americans can agree that this has been such a controversial election, one that has been so memorable and captivating that even children that are nine years old know the name “Donald Trump.”
The New York Times released the poll results for this election. More than 50% of Americans that voted for Trump did not have a college degree and were white.
Trump won the electoral vote; this news has created so many varying sentiments. Trump supporters are ecstatic, while Clinton supporters are heartbroken. After viewing several videos and posts on social media about the constant protests across the United States, I cannot help but to feel sorrowful for these emotionally destroyed Americans.
Perhaps you feel that these protests are too much and that the Clinton supporters are “sore” losers. Or perhaps you think these actions are completely justified.
Whatever your opinion may be, Americans have the right to express their emotions, express their hatred for Donald Trump, and express their disapproval of our corrupt governmental system that we call the “Electoral College.”
Explain this to me- how can one win the electoral vote, but lose the popular vote? If we are a country that is dependent on Americans, dependent on the people to make decisions, how can we rely on the Electoral College to ultimately choose the new elect?
The 2016 United States Election results released that Donald Trump received 47% of the popular vote, while Hillary Clinton received 48%. This means that Clinton received the support of about 600,000 more Americans than Trump. So, how exactly is this a united nation who listens to the people, who relies on the people to shape the country?
We are not a country who is dependent upon the people. Instead, we allow the Electoral College to choose which candidate can be the next president. I hope they chose wisely, because right now, it does not seem like it.
How can this nation elect a president that has shown too many similarities to Adolf Hitler? How can America elect someone who is racist? How can we support someone whose vice presidential candidate advises conversion therapy? How can we allow a wealthy businessman to take over our country, one that we have worked so hard to protect?
I truly hope Donald Trump can handle it, and I hope both conservatives and liberals can unite once again. This pact needs to happen in order for Trump to lead the United States into success.
