Growing up is difficult. We go through many new experiences in life that change us. But along the way, we need to keep in mind our values that are a part of us. One of the values that holds true to my heart is being a priority. I'm not an option.
Bringing people into your life can be risky. One of the many challenges in this situation is questioning, "Is it even worth it?". Once we get past the difficult times in our lives, we begin to grow with them. That person is part of our journey. We develop a connection like no other, almost as if we are inseparable. Because we let them into our crazy lives, we can make them a priority. We make time, put in the effort, and try for them. We do everything in our power to let them know that they are a priority in our life. However, the other person may not think the same as you.
You can be treated like an option. Believe me, it sucks. It sucks being the person that gets the short end of the stick. It sucks when someone doesn't make time for you, and you feel them dwindling away. You feel as if you are the second choice in their eyes. You put in a constant effort, but you don't see the other person trying at all. This feeling sucks, but there is a way to get out of it.
If you are one of those many people that are treated like an option, don't put up with it. We can only take so much until we are completely done. Stand your ground, and realize you deserve to be a priority. You deserve to be someone's first choice. You deserve someone that gives you effort. You deserve someone that is all about you. There shouldn't be a fight for a spot in someone's life, you should be THE spot.
It may seem tough at first to realize that this may be happening to you, but it does empower you in so many ways. You can finally be done putting up with someone's shit, and learn that you deserve the world. There comes a time in life when you need to stop crossing oceans for people who wouldn't even jump puddles for you.
Be a priority, but never an option. Become someone's first hello, and last goodbye. Acknowledge those in your life that put you first, because those are the ones to keep. Make sure you spend your time on people that are worth it because life is short.
"Be with someone who treats you like a destination, not a stop along the way." -Mandy Hale
