There is a lot to be said about that day which romantically marks the halfway-point of February. Sweet, stereotyped, and pink all over, Valentine's Day is subject to an ongoing battle between romantics and cynics everywhere. Having experienced both sides of the battlefront, fiercely loving or hating Cupid's arrows depending on the year he shoots 'em, I propose a truce.
To start the optimism movement on February 14th, here is the bucket list for myself and any other optimists out there to follow. Any takers to live it up and check these bad boys off with me?
1. Compliment any and every person you talk to.
If you find yourself in a conversation at any time on Saturday, be sure and make that person feel swell. Hair. Eyes. Outfit. Laugh. Quirks. Find what makes that person sparkle and tell them about it.
2. Sing along to any song you hear on the radio.
Or to yourself. The point is to sing. Air guitar/drums and dance moves optional but encouraged.
3. Find a place that has a beautiful view and get there.
Give yourself 5 minutes in complete silence, taking in the world that you get to hang out on...it's a pretty gorgeous one.
4. Buy somebody's coffee or lunch.
Whether or not you reveal your identity (this gives you a chance to make a new friend), you will make somebody's day, which I guarantee will help make your own.
5. Sit down and read through 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
If we as the starters of the optimism movement can love even half as well as this passage tells us to, we're in for a much happier Valentine's Day. And who knows? Maybe we're in for a much happier every day.
