Meeting My People In College

College is different, it's not necessarily good but its not exactly bad either. There are a lot of changes going on with classes, new people and new places it can be easy to be overwhelmed. Sometimes throughout the madness you meet some people who you know are important. I'm not talking about them being the kids of high class politicians but they matter to you specifically. I met these people pretty early on while on campus. One lives on my hall and we met through our orientation group the first week of school. We weren't really sure what to think of each other at first, I mean she's a loud cheerleader and I was the OCD Student Body President. We bonded over our lack of excitement about being dragged around campus and once we started talking we found that our love of food would seal this friendship. We go out to eat together and explore new potential places to eat and shop at weekly.

My next person is actually someone I met at registration over the summer. We are both in the business department and his goofy personality was a draw in. He was the only one in our group that didn't seem to mind the fact that we were up way too early and once we found out that we both loved "Friends" we spent the rest of the day talking. We never actually got each other's numbers but we ran into each other on the first week of school at our business department meeting. Imagine my immense delight to see him come bounding down the steps to shout "HEY IT'S YOU," I was half amused and half mortified. We ended that day watching episodes of "Friends" and I couldn't help but wonder how we were getting along so well. He's loud and spontaneous and I'm calm and collected, but once we looked past that I could tell he was special.

These two people are what I'm calling my "college family." These guys are my support group who are gonna help me when I'm at my lowest and cheer me on when I'm at my best. That blonde cheerleader I was telling you about, yeah we're gonna be roommates next year. That guy from earlier is currently sitting up here with me as I type this and distracting me by tickling my feet and bursting into random rap lyrics with our blonde cheerleading friend. Those two are gonna be my sanity in college and hopefully be a part of my life for a very long time. I believe God has a plan for all of us and he sent these two to me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
