To exist is to be opinionated. Every single person who lives on this dying planet has unique ideas that they believe to be the "right" ideas. Truthfully, to be "right" is to exist as well.
Most people have differing opinions, and even when you find someone who has similar ideas and opinions in comparison to your own, usually there will always be something you disagree on. The reason why everyone has different opinions is because everyone is experiencing life in a different way, and these separate and unique experiences lead to the formation of ideas and philosophies regarding life here on this funny little planet of ours. Everyone has a right to interpret the universe in whatever way they see fit.
Now, I am not saying there’s anything wrong with having opinions. The issue with being opinionated arises when we take those opinions based on our unique experience and claim they are the only correct opinion that exists. Due to the fact that each of us is experiencing the universe in a different light, there can be no such thing as correctness in actuality.
Right and wrong are based on opinions. Everyone defines right and wrong for themselves in this life, and that's why no one has the right to claim another person's viewpoint as invalid. Nothing is black and white. Everything is in a big gray area. Debates are pointless because everyone is correct. Another issue is that we associate being correct with positivity, so when I say everyone is correct, I am not saying that I approve of all opinions or agree with them all. I am merely observing the fact that all points of view are understandable. The problem is that we are all far too hasty when it comes to voicing our opinion over another. We should be constantly listening to another's opinion in order to understand it; however, we are all too obsessed with our own thoughts to let anyone else have a true voice in our lives. When we converse, sometimes, we are just waiting for the chance to speak.
The reason why right and wrong have come into existence is because some of our opinions are more readily agreed with by the general public. For example, most people would agree that killing someone else is wrong, but there’s always another side to the story. Perhaps there is a situation where one must kill or be killed. Maybe it is a matter of protection, where a mother had to protect her child. Would you call a mother incorrect for protecting the life of her child by taking the life of a kidnapper or murderer?
My main point about opinions is that we need to start understanding that everyone is entitled to believe what they want. No one has the right to claim that another person is wrong. Everyone has unique opinions.
Let’s try and end pointless arguments because they go nowhere. We need to start accepting other people’s opinions and trying to understand other points of views more often. I personally try to do this everyday. I try to understand the people I talk to and then I validate their ideas in my own mind through mentally putting myself in their shoes, so to speak. If I fail to understand their opinion completely, I try to remember that the world is a big place, full of lots of people and lot of ideas, therefore I am no more correct than they are. We just need to get better and realizing that we are all human, we are all still learning about the world, and that everyone is right.
Every point of view can be understood if you take the time to appreciate it.
