Dear Zac,
I began the morning of May 27th like any other morning this summer: check the time on my phone, try to go back to bed, realize I can’t and then do my social media check. However, on my Twitter feed, I found a tweet that was rather unsettling:
WTF Zac?! You regret doing High School Musical?!?!?!?! I mean I understand we all have times we would rather not discuss (for me it’s 2008-2012), but STILL. Those times shaped us to be who we are today. And personally, I would be more ashamed of this:
Going back to those less than times, do you really think you would have the career you have today if it weren’t for the "High School Musical" movies? Because of your role as the traditional teenage heartthrob who’s a jock that surprisingly has feelings too, you were thrust into the spotlight. You were (and still maybe are) every tween/teenager girl’s crush.
We get it though. You grew up, and so did the O.G. "High School Musical" fans. We love you in your more adult roles. We laughed at the jokes in "That Awkward Moment," and you surprised us when you became seemingly impossibly hotter in "Neighbors." We love you for who you are today, but we still love you for who you were: Troy.
We will always love "High School Musical." When the movies came out, it perhaps was one of the greatest times of our lives. We were so young and so innocent. And so were you, Zac.
To cool the waters a bit, we saw your tweet, and we forgave you.
Yes, we’re still a bit irritated that you weren’t at the "High School Musical" reunion, and that you didn’t know the lyrics to “Breaking Free,” but hopefully one day you’ll learn to embrace the past as we have learned to embrace ours.
Sincerely,
Every Disney Channel fan who knows the entire dance to “We’re All in This Together” 10 years later
