Dear 2016,
While I haven't exactly met you yet, I have to say I am so excited for you to get here. 2015 was filled with some awesome memories and also some pretty bad ones, too. I do not know what you will bring me, but I cannot wait to find out.
What new things will I learn about? What new people will I meet? What crazy nights will I have with friends? What memories will I make that will last forever? Maybe I will finally nail down what I want to do with my life. Maybe I will finally get started on that hobby I have always wanted to take up. Maybe I will actually start working out or eating healthy. Or maybe I will just binge watch some Netflix. Who knows? Only you do, 2016, and I cannot wait to see what wonderful surprises you have in store for me.
I have to be totally honest with you though, 2016, I am also a little terrified of the tragedies you may bring. I am not the type of person who will dwell on the negative, but one cannot help but worry a little bit. I ask you to please be kind to me when you are planning all of the things that will happen to me when I meet you. I'm worried about what you have in store for me in my relationships, in my grades, or even in my health. I have learned from a lot of your friends, the past years, that surprises are not necessarily a good thing. And although I will be prepared to catch whatever you may throw at me, I ask you to not throw so many curve balls, if you can.
Year 2016, you are a year filled with hope, and not just for me but for everyone on this Earth. We are all hoping for this to be a better year. Maybe this year, we will get one step closer to world peace. Or maybe more mouths will be fed than there were last year. Maybe fewer people will be taken advantage of. Maybe we will start treating this planet with the respect that it deserves. Some would say we can only hope for what this new year would bring, and in some respects, that is true. However, 2016, I would also like to thank you for restoring hope into all of our hearts and reminding us that even though some things are left to fate, luck, or whatever, a lot of the changes we want to make are completely up to us.
Year 2016, as I say goodbye to 2015, I cannot help but smile when I think of all the possibilities that you hold for me and for everyone else. While the uncertainty can be terrifying, it is also one of the only certain things about life as a human. So, 2016, I am running to meet you with arms open wide, ready for whatever you bring me.
