A Letter To The Weather, Please Just Make Up Your Mind

I am ready and hoping for a “real” summer since we apparently aren’t doing a “real” spring this year.

Every morning I wake up, and one of the first things I do is check the weather app on my phone.

I am the type of person who has to plan out what I am going to wear before I even get out of bed. Figuring out what to wear can require a lot of effort.

“High 65 and sunny.” The perfect day!

Wrong. There are days when I have checked the weather and dressed accordingly, only to realize halfway throughout the day that the meteorologists had been wrong… Again!

I am so tired of dressing for the wrong kind of weather. I like the cold, and I like the heat. I also like when it’s somewhere in between. I don’t like all of this switching back and forth mumbojumbo.

Please just stay hot or cold or warm. Don’t start out cold and then turn hot. Don’t start out hot and then turn cold. Just pick one!

If I check the weather app and it tells me there’s a 90% chance of rain at 2 pm today, then it better rain at 2 pm today. I hate it when it’s supposed to rain and then it doesn’t, because nine times out of ten I will have worn rain boots all day for no reason. I also hate when it isn’t supposed to rain and then it does, because I more than likely won’t be dressed for rain then either.

Growing up in Mississippi has taught me that I can no longer trust my weather app. Weather is unpredictable.

I may not always be dressed for rain, but I now carry an umbrella in my bookbag every single day. It can start pouring down rain at any moment, even if it was sunny without a cloud in the sky just minutes before. I also usually have some sort of jacket or sweater that I can put on and take off throughout the day as the temperature fluctuates.

I am ready and hoping for a “real” summer since we apparently aren’t doing a “real” spring this year.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
