An Open Letter To Transfer Students

Get ready to find your dream school

An Open Letter To Transfer Students

Dear transfer student,

I am writing to you because I was you three years ago. Three years ago, I made the bold decision to transfer schools. Three years ago, I made one the best and life-altering decisions. Three years ago, my world changed. While it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life so far, it was not easy at the time. Even though every sign, dead end, and opportunity pointed me in the direction to transfer schools, I still had my doubts after making my decision. I was terrified through the whole process and it wasn't until halfway through my first semester at my new school when I realized I had made the right move. I am writing to you today to give you peace and tell you that you are making the right decision.

If you are transferring to your dream school, congratulations! Whether you are coming from home or another university, you must be proud, as you should be. Hours and hours of work were put in to get here and you deserve it. Keep up the hard work, because it won't get any easier. Even though you are excited about finally going to the school of your dreams, you are still scared. You are scared of your future roommates, classmates, friends, and professors. I know this because everyone was. At first it might be difficult, but don't lose hope. If this is your first time away from home, living with roommates is always hard. Even when you are living with your best friends, it can still have difficult moments. You are going to meet a lot of people and you will not be able to decide who you want in your corner and who you don't. Making new friends is a process and is not something that happens overnight. Keep trying and if you ever feel lonely, remember that even seniors in their fourth year at your school still feel lonely at some point. Once you get settled, these will be some of the best times of your life. Get ready, because you are about to live out your dreams.

If you are like me, and transferring from your dream school, congratulations as well, because this take courage. Sometimes you get to your dream school and realize that it's not everything you dreamed it would be and that is okay. Maybe you couldn't pursue the career your heart desired there, maybe the school was too big or too small, or maybe you just hated the city. Whatever your reason is, hold on to it. Right it down, because there will come a time when you will try to convince yourself you made the wrong decision and you will need to remind yourself that you didn't. The friends and experiences you made there, will be a part of your forever, but new ones await you. Leaving your dream school is scary. Moving to a new city is scary. Making new friends is scary. You may feel like a failure, but you're not, you're brave. Give it time and don't give up. You've done this before and you can do it again. Get ready, because you are about to find the real school of your dreams

No matter which scenario you're in, your life is about to change. You are going to meet some of the best friends you've ever had. You are going to take some of your favorite classes. You are going to have highs and lows, good times and bad times, and you will be changed forever. Congratulations, good luck, and remember you made the right decision.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
