An Open Letter To The Transfer College Student

Sometimes it doesn't work the first time.

Dear Brave Transfer Student,

Congratulations! Whether your old school didn't have your major, you finally got into your dream school. Maybe you just wanted another fresh start. This is your new home and you did it on your own. Change is hard... But change is good.

College is hard. No two schools are alike and this new school is a new ball game. Not all transitions are easy.

Just in case it’s not a smoother transition than you may initially think, understand that it's really ok. Maybe you're studying abroad in a country or culture totally unlike what you are familiar with. Maybe you transferred to the state school that a lot of the kids from high school are attending. Maybe you are thousands of miles away from the place you called home and venturing into new land; into a state and city in which you know absolutely no-one.

Regardless, it took some type of guts and a lot of strength to change your life and what you're used to and continue your college career somewhere else brand new.

For that alone, give yourself a pat on the back.

Remember that not every day is gonna be a good one. Some days may be lonely and terrible. Some days will be more nerve wracking than others. However, eventually when you feel at home -- the day that you realize where you belong is at this school -- is the day you will realize that it was all so worth it in the end. On top of that, there will be many more to come.

This your new home. It may not seem like it for a while but understand that it is what you make of it.

There will be people that you will eventually meet that will make this place feel a little more cozy and like home. Don’t ever forget them or forget how important they are. Don't ever forget how comforting they made you feel in a place you felt alone at times. Most importantly, don't forget how much their small act of friendship meant to you.

They may have forgotten about that short lunch you once had on a busy Wednesday afternoon or that generous invite to their place one weekend to watch a movie, but it was probably more comforting to you then they will ever know.

Now take on the world and remember that they know your name but not your story.

Love,

The guy that changed schools three times before finding his home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
