Societal norms have led us to believe that pale skin isn't beautiful. It seems that to fit in the "norm" of pretty, it requires blonde hair and sun-kissed tan skin. What about us Snow Whites? There's a negative connotation attached to the word pale. So much so, that people started using the word "fair" instead.
For some of us, not only is getting tan difficult, but it's also very dangerous. Skin cancer is extremely serious and we're in no rush to cut our lives short. But the constant teasing and borderline bullying makes it hard to deal with. It seems like not a day can go by without someone mentioning how pale you are. You're not alone. To some people, this may seem like a ridiculous insecurity, but it's very real. It changes how you see yourself, what you allow yourself to wear, and affects your confidence enormously.
You're not alone if:
You've ever changed your outfit because you're insecure with the amount of skin you've shown.
You were afraid of blinding people.
You changed just because you were anticipating the hurtful comments for the day.
You've ever spent months trying to find the right foundation for your skin, only to fail time after time.
After every time you workout, your face turns red like a tomato and people think you're close to death.
You've ever been self conscious of how every time you blush your face flares up like Rudolph's nose.
You get tired of people constantly telling you that you could use some more sun, knowing that you would if you could.
You've ever desperately tried fake tanners or natural glow creams only to have it turn you orange.
Maybe someone, sometime, has pushed you to your breaking point with one simple remark and made you cry at the end of a long, hard day. But I want you to know how beautiful and unique you are.
You pull off the fair skin and are a rare form of beauty. So just think of it this way, in the long run, your skin will be silky smooth and wrinkle less, delaying the world's natural aging process. So in the meantime, put on that red lipstick you've been wanting to wear. Forget what others may think of you, and work it. You're amazing.
