An Open Letter To My Sorority Sisters

From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. From the inside looking out, you can't explain it.

An Open Letter To My Sorority Sisters

To my sisters,

You know when certain people come into your life and you don't understand how or why, but you're so happy they did? That's how I feel about all 200+ of you. As cliché as it sounds, I'm truly a part of the best sisterhood in the world. Zeta Tau Alpha has given me the best friends, sisters, and future-bridesmaids (okay, maybe a little too cliché now) I could have ever asked for. As dramatic as it sounds, I couldn't imagine my life without you all. I'm so thankful for all the endless love I've received from all of you and can't imagine my college experience without you. Unsurprisingly, this has started to sound like a love letter, but let's be real, it basically is.

So, thank you.

Thank you for 2 am Taco Bell and listening to me whine about the way my butt looks in my pants. (Funny how these two correlate.)

Thank you for stealing, sharing, and saving study rooms for me. Thank you for all your study tips and sharing your old calculus notes with me. You guys help me put the A in ZTA... Okay, too corny. Moving on.

Thanks for not bringing up that one time at New Member Retreat when I said I wanted to marry Drake so Rihanna could be my mom… You guys know what I meant.

Thanks for listening to me complain. I probably say I want to drop out of school at least seventy times a day, and it's always met with “we both should. Let's do it.” But also thank you for not letting me actually do it. School is the real reason we're here, right?

Thank you for giving me my best friends in the world. Thank you for giving me my awesome big, my perfect family, and my future bridesmaids (again, literally so cliche, but I don't even care). I've found my people for life and that's what's most important here.

Thank you for all the friendships, food, t shirts, awkward stories, funny stories, late night conversations, memories, and fun.

Thank you for sisterhood. When I picture the next four (but probably five) years of my life, all I see are my sisters beside me.

ZLAM,

Ciera Lindsey

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
