A Letter To My Sisters

What would I do without you?

A Letter To My Sisters
BuzzFeed

Growing up with a sister is like having a constant enemy, yet a constant best friend all at the same time. It is like living with your arch nemesis some days, and other days it is like living with your closest most beloved friend... I have four sisters. Yes, that is right, four. I am stuck right in the middle of them. I have been the punching bag and I have been the punch line of many jokes. However, I have also been the bully and the ultimate provoker, I have pushed buttons that shouldn't have been pushed, I have blamed them for my bad moods even though they had nothing to do with it. I can admit that I haven't always been the best sister, and for that I am sorry. So to my sisters, I just want to tell you a few things. You each mean more to me than you will ever know. As much as we hate to admit it or think about it, when push comes to shove and our parents are no longer around, we are all that we have.

I am going to be honest, I didn't understand how important sisters are until I went to college. Now that I am here and you all are there, I finally comprehend how important our bond truly is. When I meet a new boy, I want to call each of you and give you the details, which I usually do. When something good happens, I want to call you so you can share my excitement and when something bad happens you are the first person I want to cry to. Our bond, my individual bond with each of you, is something that I know has been key to my survival thus far in life. From you all I have learned to be myself regardless of what people say or think, I have learned to fight my own battles knowing that if I need backup, at least one, if not all, will be there as soon as physically possible. I have learned that I am not always right, I have learned to pick and choose my battles. I am so thankful for all that you four have taught me. I want you to know that as your sister, I will never leave your side no matter how mad we've made each other. As your sister, I will fight to the very end for each of you.

Thank you for always laughing at my jokes, and for always being a good audience to my off the wall random singing performances on the kitchen table chairs. Thank you for giving me a sisterhood so special that watching the movie "Frozen" is almost unbearable. Thank you for singing in the car with me and secretly taking my side when I argue with mom and dad. Thank you for hating all of the people that I do, thank you for supporting me through every high and low.

We are all so different, yet so much alike. When one of us pulls, the other pushes. When one gives, the other takes. We grow together, we change together, we cry together, and we thrive together. I've never met anyone that understands me the way you all do.

So here's to you my sista, sistas.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
