An Open Letter To My Boyfriend's Family

Most girls would agree with me when I say that meeting your boyfriend's family for the first time is a little nerve wracking. Well, when I was told that he had SEVEN sisters, six of which were older than him, those nerves turned into more of a panic. I believe my exact thoughts were, "Seven sisters?! How in the world am I going to make seven girls who want the absolute best for their only brother like me?!" Yeah, like I said, I panicked.

Now, months later, I realize how stupid I was for being so freaked out. All seven of his sisters are the most humble, kind and beautiful souls I have ever met. They accept me, include me in family events and always greet me with wide smiles and waves. They're so welcoming.

Five of these incredible ladies have children, all of whom possess the same qualities I previously mentioned their mothers have. There are currently 19 kids, although I'm sure this number will continue to rise. I only met these kids a few months ago, but they already mean so much to me. The little girls all play with my long hair. I teach them how to do flips and play house with them. The boys are more into sports — baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming — you name it and I've probably played it with them at least once... or at least attempted to play it with them (hint, hint: soccer!). The couple of babies that there are I love to hold. They stare at me with wide eyes and it melts my heart. I would do just about anything for these crazy kids and I can't wait to continue watching them grow up.

The sister's who are married — six of the seven are — have wonderful husbands. They are amazing dads and remind me of my own. They also enjoy playing sports and being active. Whether it was attempting cheerleading stunts in the pool with them or playing basketball in the driveway, we were almost always doing something fun this past summer.

And last but not least, to my boyfriend's parents: I see you as a second set of parents. You have been so kind and welcoming to me. I love that I can come over even when your son isn't home, just to see you and catch up. You're both so easy to talk to! Thank you for raising such a wonderful son. I'm so lucky to have him in my life. To my boyfriend's dad, thank you for picking on me. I love it and you never fail to make me laugh and smile. I was once very shy around you, but that all went away the night you made me dance with you on the back deck. I love that you are outgoing enough to do things like that! To my boyfriend's mom, you are the most caring and kindhearted person I have ever met. You are always sure to give me hugs before I leave and wish me a good week back at school. When I fell asleep all those nights on your couch, I could always count on you to cover me up with a blanket. You never let me go hungry. Even when I've already eaten supper, you still try to get me to eat with you and honestly, I love that about you. You're a wonderful mom and grandma and I admire you greatly.

I have never fit in so well with a family like I do with yours, other than my own. I absolutely love spending time with you all and am always sad when I have to leave you to go back to school. Thank you all so much for loving me and caring for me. I love you all so much already and I miss you like crazy when I'm at school. I can't wait to see you all again and I hope you all love me as much as you make it seem like you do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
