I'd like to start by saying that my freshman year of college has been one of the most eye opening, amazing experiences of my life. From the friends I have made to the nights I will never forget, every part of my first year of college has been memorable. Sure, sometimes the food was not all that great, (let's be real, was it ever that great?) but some of the conversations had over meals were ones to be remembered forever. Some conversations were even so thought provoking that you were left wondering if you could ever find a friend as great as this again.
Next year everything will change. As this year is coming to an end we find that some of our closest friends will be transferring to other schools, or just leaving to deal with life all its own, (don't worry, we still love you, and you can do this on your own, it'll be okay). It may be 15 minutes away, or it might be hours. However long it may be, we know that this person will be missing from our lives every day, and we will miss them dearly.
Thank you for choosing our school first. Certainly our first year would not have been as wonderful as it is had you not been here. None of our meals would have gone the same way. None of the nightly outings would have gone down the same way, (honestly, nothing could be better than an evening CVS/WaWa run). You have graced us with your presence and we will forever be thankful for both the outlook on life and the love you have shared with us.
We did not start out as close as we would have hoped, or even with the people we expected, but now looking back, it is almost like we have never gone without each other. I cannot imagine how much my life will change next year without you in it, but I have high hopes for all of you. Please never give up on your hopes and dreams. Please try to succeed in everything you do, and even if you don't, don't worry; I know you've tried your hardest.
Our first year together has led to many changes and differences of opinions, but through everything there has been no greater support than the support I get every day from my college friends. When I changed from my pre-vet major to a criminal justice degree, sure there were some questions, but there was never any kind of judgement.
Please never forget that I will always be here, behind you every step of the way. Don't ever forget that I will be supporting you from the sidelines. Please do not forget to visit, even if you are 16 hours away.
You will go on to make new friends, and make friends with their friends. Please do not forget about myself or all of the fun we have had. Never forget the stories we stayed up telling each other on the nights I was actually on campus (#commuterproblems).
Thanks for everything, but there's more...
To the students transferring in, welcome! We cant wait to meet you and get to know our new classmates and life-long friends. Some of you we may know already (yay!), and others are going out on a limb by coming here to finish your college years. Either way, I'm sure there will be new memories and new stories to be told for many years to come. Enjoy your time here, and don't be afraid to approach someone you may not know; I promise we don't all bite.
