An Open Letter To The Fall

Oh, how I have missed your beautiful weather.

An Open Letter To The Fall

To my favorite season:

Welcome back! I am so excited that you have finally arrived!

I am constantly reminding myself how blessed I am to live in a region that experiences all four seasons, but part of me is always pushing for you to arrive. You offer the greatest temperatures, the best holidays, and so many fun-filled activities.

I have missed your cool and sunny days, your chilly breeze, and the beautiful colors that you paint the earth with. Your temperatures are just right, the main reason that you are my favorite. You’re never too hot and never too cold which is the best part. Sometimes you can get a little cold, but it’s nothing that a comfy sweater, scarf, and a pair of boots can’t fix.

Not only have I yearned for your perfect weather, but I have also patiently waited for the seasonal treats that come along with you. I have anticipated the return of pumpkin spice on the Starbucks menu. When you arrive it means that it’s time for my mom to bake pumpkin bread, spice cookies, and a plethora of pies, of course. Nothing compares to sipping on warm apple cider or hot chocolate on a chilly fall day. These treats never fail to put a smile on my face. My taste buds crave your flavors.

With you comes Halloween, which means costumes and endless candy. I always love coordinating costumes with my friends and seeing what other people wear. Halloween really brings out people’s creativity which I find fantastic.

Thanksgiving is the best holiday, because let’s be real…endless amounts of really good food is probably the greatest thing to ever happen. The Thanksgiving meal is the best meal of the year. Nothing compares to the combination of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing. It’s a tradition in my family to play football together outside on Thanksgiving Day which is always a great time.

I have to say, you’re associated with the best scents as well. I can always count on my mom to have an autumn-scented candle burning in the house, or my dad burning some wood in the fireplace. Although I am away at school for a majority of your season, you always remind me of my hometown because of how beautiful you make it. My mom always decorates the house so nicely and the leaves changing colors, the scenery in general, is breathtaking. This is why I can’t help but think of my home when you arrive.

Another plus is that you allow me to wear my favorite clothing. I can finally wear all of my really nice clothes that have been hung up on hangers for months waiting to be worn. My dark-washed jeans, oversized sweaters, beanies, and scarves all go together and make the greatest outfits. I love the dark reds, shades of brown, and burnt orange colors that I wear best when you are here. My outfits during your season are cute and chic, but they’re always comfortable…huge plus.

Fall, you also bring us Americans the best sports season EVER…footballlllll! We take football season very seriously…it is a big part of the culture here in America. Football seasons is always so exciting, and the fact that it takes place during your seasons makes it that much better.

I honestly don’t know how I can thank you enough. You really are all of my absolute favorite things wrapped into one. I hope that my words allow you to realize how awesome you are and how much excitement is in the air because you are here. Welcome back, I can’t wait to experience all of the fun that you have in store for me this year. I, along with many others, have missed you dearly. Here’s to a phenomenal season!!!

With love,

A huge fan

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
