Dear Stepdads,

Despite the deluded “step” attached to your name, you will always be thought of as simply an amazing Dad, and nothing less. As crazy, over-protective and dorky as you are, everything that you do for your family doesn't go without recognition. I can’t imagine how intimidating it must have been to deal with a family that had already been established without you in it at first. All of a sudden you have a new family and new children to worry about — suddenly life is hitting you fast. Trust me, putting up with all of us certainly is no easy task, but somehow you managed to stick through it, and love each of us unconditionally. Whether you know it or not, you have filled a void in our hearts that not many are capable of filling. So, think of this as a little reminder — we are so happy to have you around.

Thank you for driving us everywhere

Whether it’s driving to travel soccer games in a car loaded with pre-pubescent girls or picking our sorry hungover butts up from a party, the “be there in 10 min” text is always a relief. You never hesitate to jump in the car and save us from any scenario, making you one of the most reliable rides to/from we’ve ever had.

Thank you for educating us in “real music”

Although we groan every time you whip out the 2008 iPod loaded with hours of guitar solos, drums and screaming men, we do appreciate some authentic rock 'n' roll. We secretly sing along sometimes, not that you would notice over the imaginary drum solo you have on the kitchen table.

Thank you for always taking a joke

The incessant teasing we do about your jean shorts, lame dance moves and corny attempts at making a joke should have gotten to you by now, but somehow you still manage to laugh along with us (while we laugh at you). Are we bullies? Maybe, but we speak the truth. Seriously, jean shorts?

Thank you for protecting us.

What’s every father’s enemy? The teenage boyfriend. With every guy that has been around, you have always been there to look him up and down and occasionally threaten his life. You have always tried to protect our fragile hearts from anything, whether it be boys, disappointments or embarrassment. You are always there to stand up for us.

And most of all, thank you for loving all of us unconditionally, especially our mom.

You have proven to all of us just how much you love us every day. Although we may have a hard time showing it, we do appreciate you. You have made not only us, but our mom so happy again, and for that, we are thankful.
