An Open Letter To My RA

Dear RA,

I'm not quite sure where to begin with this letter because it's difficult summing up all of my gratitude towards you. I came into college thinking RAs were the group of people you avoid. It's unfortunate there is this stigma attached to your title because the fact of the matter is, all of the RAs I've met (including you) are some of the most caring and dedicated humans I've ever come across. I haven't known you for a long period of time, but you've become like family to me. And for that, I will be forever thankful.

Let me begin with the fact that your room has become my little safety bubble. I go there when I'm feeling down or just need a good laugh because time spent with you is definitely time not wasted. You never fail to provide me with advice whether it be regarding my stress over midterms, problems with friends, or whatever else it may be. You always know the right thing to say even if you don't say anything at all and you just listen to me rant. You've been by my side through it all and I wouldn't have it any other way.

You are my biggest supporter and best encouragement. You push me to try my best and chase after success. Without your guidance, I would be a lost college student most likely crying in a corner somewhere. I see the genuine happiness in your eyes when you help your residents keeping moving forward in their college experience and trust me, little moments like that do no go unnoticed.

You are truly one of the most dedicated and hardworking individual I've ever met. You may not think so but I've taken noticed to the incredible amount of time you put into your job on top of balancing everything else - and I know I'm not the only resident who appreciates it all. You give advice late into the night and then ten minutes after the conversation, around midnight, you trek to the library to finish that important paper due the next day. I've seen you stapling your new bulletin board at 2am and yet you still managed to smile about it and check in with me about how my life's going.

You are so special to me because you have become one of my closest friends. My friends in college are my family away from home and I wouldn't make it through college without you. Every late night chat, inside joke, or little note from you means the absolute world to me. You are the sail to my boat and the wind carrying me throughout my days. Thank you for everything you do - you make this world a better place.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
