An Open Letter To My Past Roommates

I am sorry for not being the best roommate, because that place was taken by you.

We love them and we hate them. They didn't wash their dishes, or they forgot to take out the trash again. But they literally have seen us at our best and our worst. Who are they? Our roommates.

College isn't easy, but I am glad I had the chance to live with three wonderful girls these past two years. Y'all made me feel at home. I know that our paths are going in different directions now, and I wish nothing but the best for you, but there are a few things I would like to thank y'all for in my open letter.

To my past roommates,

Thank you for keeping me sane. I can be a hot mess, but somehow you helped me managed the craziness in my life, and if it was just not manageable at the time, you let me know that I could be a hot mess and that you would still be there with me, to love me and help me through it.

Thank you for hearing me vent about my day, most of the times I forced you to listen but you did it with a smile on your face and an engaging ear.

Thank you for allowing myself to feel comfortable around you. I know I can be kinda weird, and dramatic sometimes but you let me be myself, without judging me.

Thank you for not judging me if I drank the whole bottle of wine in one sitting.

Thank you for not judging me if I want to wear a tutu and dance to swan lake in the living room.

Thank you for not judging me if I woke up and half my eyeliner was smeared on my face.

Thank you for never saying "I told you so" after making a mistake, you warned me about.

Thank you for not judging me for eating the entire pint of ice cream, and thank you for eating one with me. ;)

Thank you for being my confidant.

Thank you for giving my music and TV show preferences a chance, and getting hooked because that gave us something else to talk about.

Thank you for being my partner in crime, and for always being down for anything.

Thank you for creeping on cute guys with me. (people watching is a hobby, right?)

Thank you for telling me "good morning".

Or "goodnight"

Thank you for all the times you wished me good luck on a test.

Thank you for the times when we would laugh so hard our tummies hurt.

Thank you for letting me borrow a necklace, or a headband or a cardigan, because my ass would never fit in your jeans.

Thank you for helping me choose an outfit, "WHEN I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!"

Thank you for not judging how messy my room got, but laughing because your room looked the same way. "When my life is a mess, my room is a mess."

Thank you for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself.

Thank you for always supporting my decisions.

But most importantly, thank you for being you, and for always standing by my side these past couple of years. I am sorry for not being the best roommate, because that place was taken by you. I will miss coming home and seeing you walk in. I will miss our fun adventures, I will even miss the sad days in our old apartment. We did have some really great times together. You are always welcome at my new place, and you will always hold a special place in my heart, you are more than a friend, you are family. This is not goodbye, it is "I'll see you later." I love y'all so much. <3

Your roommate forever,

Raquel

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
