Best friends are people who you expect to be by your side for forever, but sometimes that isn't how it works out. You will have your grade school, junior high, high school, and college best friends. Very rarely are these people all the same. As we grow and learn more about ourselves, our surroundings change and so do the people who we call best friends. Sometimes we need new best friends to help guide us on the right path. Sometimes you wish that things could be different, but you are starting a new chapter of your life.
Dear Past Best Friends,
I want you to know, regardless of whether we had a falling out or just drifted apart, that I still love and care for you the same as I did during our prime. If we did have a falling out, I don't hold that against you anymore. We were probably both to blame. Sometimes, things like that just happen in life and by now I have forgiven and forgotten. If we simply drifted apart, I want you to know that I'm sorry if I forgot to keep in contact (I can be bad at that) and it is OK if we both just grew apart and became different people. That's how life is supposed to work.
I also want you to know that I see things that remind me of our friendship to this day and I reminisce on our memories daily. I am happy for the time when I called you my best friend and all of the laughs that we shared. More than anything, I am cheering for you quietly from the sidelines. Even though we aren't close anymore and we don't keep in contact, I am always rooting for you and wishing you the best in life. As your past best friend, I know that you deserve the best.
You were by my side for the good and the bad. I will never forget our countless memories and laughs and I hope that you feel the same way too. Thank you for being my best friend, even if it was just for a part of my life.
Sincerely,
Your Past Best Friend
