Dear high school me,
Welcome to your first taste of freedom. Seems great, right? You are just beginning to see what life is really about. Dating becomes real and you are no longer fantasizing about having your license, but rather driving all of your friends around. You cannot wait to get out of the house and begin your life in college where you think you will truly blossom into your true self and begin the chapter to an amazing life.
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you suck and you aren't really that nice. You live in this bubble where you believe you are invincible and superior to everyone else, but you are not. The world does not revolve around you and it never will.
Let's take the "stupid" things that Mom and Dad tell you to do, for example. You hate cleaning your bathroom, doing laundry, and making your bed every day. In a few years, you'll be surrounded with tons of people your age who never had parents that taught them responsibility and couldn't tell you the difference between a broom and a toilet brush. It is the little things like learning and appreciating this to make you feel more organized in your own daily life.
Also, you may have a license, but you definitely cannot drive. Speed limits are put in place for a reason and please thank your parents for giving you a hand-me-down car instead of a brand new Benz because let's face it, you'll probably do some kind of damage to it. You really only need something to get you from point A to point B. It's no biggie.
Within the next few years, life will get tough. You will be left to make those big world decisions on your own. Money will be used to buy important things like groceries rather than funding that shopping spree at Bath and Body Works. People will hurt you and your mommy won't be right there to rip them a new one for you. It's not easy.
Don't worry, I can assure you that it is not as hard as it seems. These are some of the best times of your life and you grow so much as a person. You will meet incredible people who shape the way you view the world around you and will always have your back. You will become a part of something that is larger than yourself and will want time to stop so you can live in these moments forever.
It sucks now, but just keep your head up. You have amazing opportunities coming your way and the only way that you will appreciate it later is to suck it up and deal with the things you find "stupid" now. I can promise you one thing: it is not stupid. It is a part of growing up and becoming a great person.
Sincerely,
The wiser version of yourself
