"You're the one that I know I can always count on and that will still be there even when everyone else leaves."
Dear Mom,
There is so much I want to say, but I know I can never say it all, and my words would fail me if I tried. I have some pretty incredible friends in my life—friends that love me, that comfort me when I'm hurting and that laugh obnoxiously loud when I do. However, not a single one of them compare to you, Mom. Even my best of friends, isn't the best friend that you are. You're my mother, but you're so much more, and not everyone is as blessed as I am to be able to say that. You're my confidant, a clear voice of reason when the whole world is shouting nonsense. You've lived and loved more than anyone I know, but you've also experienced more heartache than anyone person should ever have to bear. I am in awe of how incredibly strong you are, and admire you for that strength more than you will ever know. I pray that I can gain only half of your strength.
You’re so beautiful inside and out, Mommy. I see the spirit of God in you daily, and you make me strive to be a better person every day. Any mistake you may have made, you’ve used to grow from and it has only made you that much stronger and that much better of a mother. You’re the kind of friend that I know encourages me and motivates me in my walk with God. You challenge me and you hold me accountable, always pushing me to be the woman God wants me to be. You drive me to succeed, but even when I fail you stand beside me.
You’ve seen me cry more than anyone else has, and I know that you hurt with me. You’re my confidant, and there is nothing I would hide from you. You know me better than any one else, even the dark, ugly parts, and you love me. It’s truly a blessing from God to have a mother than I can talk to about anything and know that you won’t judge me for my failures and mistakes, but rather listen and encourage me.
Even as I write this, I know I am not even scratching the surface of how truly remarkable you are and all the ways you are the greatest friend I will ever have. I just want to thank you for loving all of me, even when I am hard to love. Thank you for never giving up on me and for being the best example of a godly woman and a godly mother. Thank you for the countless ice-cream cones on tearful days, the hugs that glue my heart back together to go on for another day, and the words of wisdom even when I don’t always listen to them.
Most of all, thank you for being my best friend. You’re the one that I know I can always count on and that will still be there even when everyone else leaves. You’re the greatest mom anyone could ever ask for and an equally fantastic friend.
