As a Millennial, I know how hard things are right now. You're expected to live up to standards that seem impossible to fit, you're going to school and working full time, or you don't see yourself the way you should. The media portrays our generation as lazy, one with a lack of patience, and one who expects everything to be handed to them. Well, I'm here to tell you that they are wrong about us.
Our generation is one who knows what hard work is. With some to most of us going to school full time and working, we know that life can be tedious. School isn't cheap, so you need a job to pay for it, but if you have a job while in school, it distracts you from studies, but if you don't have a job then it can be hard to afford school. It can sometimes feel like an endless cycle. But what I think we fail to realize is that we just need to patient. Hard work and dedication does pay off in the end, we just have to keep moving forward. Everything pays off in time.
Media and technology are such a part of our lives, that we can forget who we are. Our views of ourselves becomes distorted into a picture that we are not happy with. We want to mold our image into those we see on the screen.
But we need to realize that there is literally no one on earth like us. There is only one you, and there is only one me. Happiness, as with all other things, starts when you begin to know and love yourself. If you know who you are, it won't matter if no one else does. As a generation, we need to show we have confidence in ourselves.
As a Millennial writing to Millennials, I want to let it be known that this is a generation that is doubted, but I know we have what it takes to be future leaders and inspirations. We have what it takes!
