An Open Letter To Millenials

This will probably offend you.

Dear Millennials,

I’m honestly ashamed to say that I’m part of your generation. I don’t know from where you got your sense of entitlement, but it’s sickening.

For the love of God, stop complaining.

Stop complaining about how you’re broke when your parents feed money into your bank accounts and you spend your paycheck on an $80 shirt from Urban Outfitters. You don’t need a new iPhone, a Kate Spade purse, or a new pair of Nikes. According to a poll by CNBC, over half of millennials admit they’re “living from paycheck to paycheck” and are “still living with or living off their parents.” I understand that many students live at home or go to community college to save money, which is great. What is not great is mooching and wasting your parents hard-earned money. I know plenty of people that work 2+ jobs just to make ends meet. So stop complaining about how life is so hard and you’re so poor when in reality you just suck at managing your money.

Stop complaining that your college education isn’t free. My education isn’t free and neither was my parents', or my grandparents', or their grandparents'. They worked their butts off to pay off their student debt just like you and I will. Just because you’re lazy and want everything handed to you doesn’t mean you’re entitled to a free pass. You have the opportunity for prosperity and economic success just like every other generation did. It’s called the American Dream.

Stop complaining that everything is offensive. People are always going to have different opinions, beliefs, and ideals than you, so stop crying when people wish you a Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. A study recently showed that “four-in-ten millennials say the government should be able to prevent people publicly making statements that are offensive to minority groups.” I’m sorry, but I’m 100% not okay with the government limiting my first amendment rights in order to protect someone from getting hurt by words, especially when half the time what people said isn’t even offensive, it’s just a differing opinion. Stop whining and playing the victim. Civil discourse is important and debating can be fun! Stop taking other people's views as an attack on your character. It’s not.

Stop complaining about the government when you know nothing about politics. Having a political opinion is excellent, and it’s awesome to see young people getting excited about politics, but the amount of uninformed and misinformed opinions I see being put out there is horrifying. Fact checking isn’t hard, guys. Additionally, a survey done by Fusion said that 77% of millennials couldn’t even name one senator from their home state. That’s honestly pathetic. A Reason Foundation poll surveyed millennials on their political views and came to the conclusion that we are “totally incoherent.”

Please get off your high horse and realize that you’re not half as great as you think you are. Stop being so self absorbed, stop mooching off your family, stop waiting for the government to give you free things, and stop whining whenever someone makes a comment that you don’t agree with. The world is bigger than your little bubble, and the sooner you realize that the world doesn't actually revolve around you, the better off we'll be.

Sincerely,
Someone Ashamed

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
