To the people who have lost brothers, sisters, children, spouses.
To the people who have lost the ability to laugh.
To the people who have lost everything.
To the people who have lost hope.
You are not alone.
To your left, right, back, front, millions stand with you.The anger, frustration, fear, pain you feel towards a world where nothing seems to go right is not yours alone. Terrorism, civil war, political divide, racial tension have brought nations and the world to its knees. And often, the only thing we want to do is lose hope, lose faith, lose that spark that gives life its wonder.
Bombings transformed November 13 into France’s 9/11. Ferguson brought the racial tension of the U.S. life, knocking down a line of dominoes that shows no signs of stopping. Unrest in the middles east continues to gain momentum, driving millions out of there homes and across borders that do not have the resources to care for the vast number of refugees.
And these are only the things making headlines.
There are still our personal obstacles: the ones no one wants to voice because they believe they are alone in their struggles. Finances, uncertainty, work, health, anxiety, depression weigh down on our shoulders until it seems relief will never come. You may feel like Atlas– holding up a world you question is worth holding up.
It is easy to feel hopeless.
But that’s the thing…it’s easy. Easy to lose hope. Easy to give in. Easy to let our anger and frustration override everything else. The world throws everything it’s got at us in hopes that we will throw up the white flag, give up, go with the flow no matter how terrible it might be.
The best revenge– taking everything it throws at us and giving it right back. Because as easy as it is to lose hope, it says abundantly more when we remain hopeful in the midst of chaos. It emanates strength when we drown out the noise of violence, unrest, and uncertainty with confidence, unity, and courage. It screams triumph when we find the vibrancy of life amongst the darkest corners of our minds and our world.
Hope is not lost, we have simply lost it along the way.
Often times it may not seem like there's nothing left, but there is so much that gives us hope, joy, laughter, life. All we need is the eyes to see it. So to those of you who have lost something, to those of you who have lost everything do not forget such things as these exist.
Humans of New York
Investing in humanity for humanity's sake. Before we are colored, white, gay, transgender, poor, rich, Christian, Muslim, we are humans with stories far greater than our appearance.
Laughter
Uprooted from a nation plagued by civil war, these Syrian refugee children have experienced more violence and unrest than most ever will…and yet they still know how to “say cheese!”
Flash Mobs
Pure, innocent dancing! Because sometimes life is as simple as busting a move!
Free Hugs
Love can be found in the most unexpected places.
Random Acts of Kindness
Caring isn't dependent on knowing.
Unity
Somehow, we still have common ground to stand on.
To the people who have lost brothers, sisters, children, spouses.
To the people who have lost the ability to laugh.
To the people who have lost everything.
There is still hope! Don't give up searching for it!
