An Open Letter To J.K. Rowling

Please Let Harry Potter Rest In Peace

An Open Letter To J.K. Rowling

Eighteen years ago you gifted me and countless other readers with Harry Potter and The Sorcer's Stone. I will never be able to fully thank you for this gift. Because of Harry Potter I fell in love with reading. I started to do better in school because I wanted to be just like Hermione. I was braver so Harry would be proud of me. I was loyal to my friends like Ron. And to this day one of the greatest compliments I have ever recieved is that I could be the next J.K. Rowling. I really am grateful for all you have given us Potterheads.

But please let Harry Potter rest in peace.

A part of me was left behind in the final chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I will forever cling to my final moment of reading a Harry Potter book for the last time. Because that was my last time, even with the new book that was released. Watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2 (not that it was necessary to split it into two parts) was my last time seeing a Harry Potter movie even with Fantastical Beasts coming out.

I know you are not fully responsible for the projects. Two other people worked on the script of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child. Fantastical Beasts will be merely an extension of your ideas as all movies are to their writers. Some projects like Pottermore and the Universal theme park are even great additions to the Harry Potter world. I understand you only wish to please your fans.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione are great friends of mine. I entered the world of magic with them. I defnded the stone, discovered the chamber, rescued the prisoner, was chosen by the goblet, joined the order, learned from the prince, and mastered the hallows. I also left them behind with fond memories. Memories that are being wrecked by the very person who created them.

These characters in the cursed child are not the ones I fell in love with. Ron is as useless as he is in the movies (other than some strange comic relief). Hermione is a ghost of her character. Harry is a terribly dull protagonist. Albus Potter is whinier than his father in the Order of Phoenix. The only thing that saves the book is Scorpius Malfoy, who is a beautiful ray of sunshine and needs to be protected at all costs. I shutter at what has been done with my childhood friends. I fear for their memories if anything else is to come to them. Please, J.K. Rowling, just let them rest in peace. After all they...we have been through. We deserve some peace.

When the series first ended all I wanted was another book. Another movie. Another moment. Now all I want is for the series to be left alone.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
