An Open Letter To Hillary Clinton And Donald Trump

We are at a pivotal point in our country's history. What will happen in the next few months, and in the next few years will have a huge impact on our country. America is struggling. We may be the most powerful, and the richest country in the world, but the average citizen is struggling to get ahead financially. Foreign relations, especially with middle-eastern countries, are not pretty. Student debt is a crisis and will devastate my generation's ability to innovate and create in the future economy. The environment is horrific; climate change is going to cause monumental damage to the future of humans and thousands of species on this planet. We need a trusted leader with a history of caring about the people. Neither of you are close to being that.

The establishment feels like it is at war with the rest of us. A war many of us aren’t even aware of. You people want us in debt, uninspired and blindly following your lead. A lead that is directing us straight into the ground. I am a student. I went to college with ideas of grandeur, as many of us did. But over the years I have learned that the world and especially our country is not what I was told it was when I was growing up. I feel like the system is actively fighting against me and people like me. We want freedom. We want to compete in the economy. We want our right to pursue happiness. Neither of your positions in society exist to help us with that.

Hillary, you are a corporatist. Your existence in politics has been to make sure progress never effects the establishments ability to adjust and maintain their monopolies and therefore power. You slowly, for the obvious political gain, flip flopped and took your time helping to fight for the rights of the people. Donald Trump, you may not have been a politician until recently but considering that you lied about financing your entire campaign and are now procuring donors for yourself, I’d say you’re just as much of a money hungry sell out as any other politician you have ever judged for being so.

Both of you are liars, and the both of you have an obvious history of criminal activity and hypocrisy. I know that neither of you care about the America people. Ego is your motive. The two of you are one in the same, but with very different approaches. I know what America needs. I’m not talking about policy. I’m not an economic genius, or a foreign policy expert. But I do know this, America needs a leader who isn’t in this thing for themselves. We need, and many of us want a leader with a clear history of fighting for the people at every turn. The two of you are definitely not that. I will not be voting for either of you. Donald you are a megalomaniac whose entire life’s success has been nurtured by the establishment, and Hillary, your career is the establishment. You two are on the same team from the point of view of where I’m sitting in life. I will not be voting for either of you. I will not cast a single vote in my life out of fear. I will not vote for Donald out of fear of all of the things you want me to fear, and I will not vote for Hillary out of fear of Trump. The only legitimate argument either of you can make in favor of yourselves, is how bad the other is. You’re both bad for America. I will not in good conscience be aiding or supporting either of you. I believe in America, and I believe that we will make progress. Not because of you, but in spite of you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
