Dad,
The definition of father is a man in relation to his natural child or children. But, you are so much more than that. You are my teacher and inspiration, the person who makes me laugh constantly and pushes me when I don’t realize I’m slacking. You are my hero, and for that and everything, I am thankful.
Mom may be my best friend, but you still hold a very special place in my heart. I’m constantly told I am just like you. I have the same personality and humor as you. You taught me that life is way too short to get depressed when nothing is going your way and that when you're having a bad day, it's better to find something to laugh or joke about rather than crying over something you can’t change. You proved how important attitude is when you were battling cancer. There was never a day you weren’t laughing and enjoying life.
You have always been my hero, but after that, you were even more awesome in my eyes. I also inherited your sarcasm. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is a question best saved for Mom to answer.
I try to spend time with you every chance I get because I don’t want to look back and regret not spending enough time with you or anyone else when I had the chance. I appreciate your honesty, even when it could have been worded differently. I’d rather you be honest than sugarcoat things. Sometimes, I can be a little too honest, as well, but that just shows how much honesty is valued in our family.
I appreciate how open you are with me. You don’t hide your life from me. You tell me about what your life was like, which is also an effective teaching tool.
Dad, thank you for being you and raising me to be independent yet compassionate, for inspiring me to fulfill my dreams and encouraging me to be a nurse. Sometimes, you can annoy me to no end. But most of the time, we are on the same page, and you amaze me. Love you, Dad!
Love,
Booger
