An Open Letter To The One Who Makes Me Happy

In the beginning, I wouldn’t dare look your way. I was a nervous girl displaying my obvious attempt at covering up the fact I was immediately attracted to you. It went on for about a week of me smiling & laying low but not saying much...and let’s face it, the last thing I wanted to do was embarrass myself. Suddenly, though, something changed; I began to get more confident and my mouth formed words and next thing I know, we went on our first date. I wasn’t sure where it would take us, but after going on our who knows what number date it was last night, and completely giggling and people focused on one another last night I realized I needed to thank you. Not just a “thank you for tonight” along with a good night kisses. No, a thank you for allowing me to be my natural self around you and understanding me better than I know myself. It's important to have someone who makes you smile, who you can joke with while being in public holding hands and having people around you guys smiling in approval. Here’s a list I have conjured up on the things I want to thank you for, some of the things that you may not think are a big deal because trust me they are.

1. You make me feel...sexy!

Sexy as in you build up confidence in myself. You make not wearing much makeup super easy and I believe that is an important level to be able to be with someone. It’s that million-dollar smile that you throw at me that I don’t think I will ever be able to control myself with.

2. You survived meeting my parents.

Meeting a girl’s parents can be scary, not many boys follow through to the step. Having the courage to meet them and be able to almost out-talk them is something that will win me over any day.

3. You spoil me.

You spoil me without me even asking. You go out of your way to plan our dates together, never expecting anything in return; you do it simply because you care. Every girl loves to be spoiled, and you sure are the man for the job.

4. You deal with me.

I have the tendency to be overly dramatic and say the wrong thing, and you still seem to think I am perfect, even when I miss my mouth with the spoon full of ice cream or when I slam the truck door a little too hard...by the way, sorry about that!

5. You always know the right things to say.

I ask how my hair looks, you respond, “it always looks good;” you tell me how confident you find me, you tell me I am pretty. It is the little things you do and/or say that mean the world to me. Even just the small compliment on my outfit for our date that night makes my heart warm.

6. I’m comfortable around you.

For once in my life, I don’t get overly embarrassed by the things I say and do. I find myself being absolutely ridiculous, from tripping over myself to almost completely knocking myself out at dinner and you still smile proudly at me...and I know you are thinking “that’s my girl,” and it makes me so proud that you're my boy.

7. You show me off.

You make the effort for me to meet the people in your life, you spoil me, and when people ask if I am your girlfriend you don’t even hesitate to say “yes.” You hold my hand tight and show me your endless care for me; I wouldn’t trade that feeling for the world.

8. The dates.

“I don’t know, what do you want to do?” Is never an option with you! That is what makes you so perfect. Thank you for always knowing how to plan a fun night or day together. That it one of my favorite qualities about you is how sentimental you truly are, but next date night is my idea! Hehe.

9. We are best friends, too.

Between the inside jokes and spontaneous adventures, you also take the place as a best friend, which is so healthy and important in a relationship. I am so happy we can be both with one another whenever we want, I mean isn’t that the point of a “boyfriend?”

10. The cute reminders.

Not just the cute text messages, but also the cute notes left around we do for one another will never get old.

XOXO,

Your girl

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
